Project Cheetah

Project Cheetah

A long time ago there were cheetahs in India that belonged to a certain species, Asiatic cheetahs. They were of critical importance to keeping the ecosystems in balance and making sure the food web is kept in balance. And the population of deer is controlled. But the cheetah population started dying out due to overhunting. At one point it became a critically endangered species. Then in 1952, the species went extinct in India. This had hazardous consequences for the ecosystems of India. The food web and the ecosystem completely became imbalanced. The number of deer increased like crazy. Plants started dying due to them being eaten so often. In short, the ecosystems of India that relied on cheetahs to keep them in balance went haywire. This was a huge problem that needed to be fixed ASAP. So, India decided to start a project, Project Cheetah. Just like they had increased the tiger population due to the success of Project Tiger. But you’re probably wondering how they can bring an extinct species back to life. Well, let me explain India’s plan to make Project Cheetah a great success. The plan was that they would take cheetahs from African Nations and since Africa has the most cheetahs, they would release them in India. That was the plan to bring cheetahs back to India. Of course, it’s not as easy as it seems. They have to keep them in an enclosure to give them time to adjust to the climate and then release them. If they don’t get used to the climate the cheetahs can die. And they have to do more things like getting used to the different tastes of deer and much more. Accomplishing Project Cheetah is going to be a very tough task, it might seem like an easy task but it’s not. There are lots of things that need to be satisfied to accomplish Project Cheetah. But the good news is India has already started this. Yes, Africa has given India 12 cheetahs. Now they are in Kuno National Park. If India hopefully continues doing this, the ecosystems and the food web that was affected badly by the extinction of Cheetahs can again become fully balanced.
