A long time ago, Australia sounded the alarm. A fish capable of killing a lot of animals was coming onto land. Scientists said that it could upset the balance of the ecosystem. But, how can one fish do all that and how did it come onto land? This is the climbing perch, the fish capable of killing a lot of animals. But how did it come onto land? You see, a long time ago when there weren’t many predators, only insects and arachnids crawling around. These fish began to evolve. They modified their gills and climbing perches could stay on land for more than 24 hours. If mud is there they can live in mud for up to a month! But how can they kill so many animals? They have sharp spines on their back and tiny needle-like things in their gill flap. So, if any animal tries to eat it, it will choke to death. Sometimes, it causes a slower death due to starvation. But it’s natural selection and all that, right? Well, this only works if the climbing perch is in its habitat. If it goes to another place and kills native predators it can cause a disaster for the ecosystem. But, how does the climbing perch get to another place? Climbing perches travel on the dew on land. But you can’t travel from one continent to another continent or country in dew. So, when climbing perches in the water, they stick to the submerged part of the ship and go wherever the ship takes them. We should get rid of the climbing perch where it’s newly introduced. We should kill as many climbing perches as possible to save the ecosystem and the native predators.
