chicken-digging

Chickens are funny birds. They can often do things that can confuse humans.  They also love to dig. They sometimes dig just because they’re bored but sometimes it can be a more serious issue.  You know that chickens’ feathers absorb heat, this is why they dig. When they sit in the soil the heat gets released more quickly. The bird’s just trying to cool off. But chickens aren’t the only ones to do this practice of burying themselves in soil. Other birds do this too. They are also just cooling off. But sometimes birds do this to take a bath! Yes, sand or soil can extract oil, dead skin, and or harmful things. If the bird is not close to the water, this is the only option the bird has.  You might think the birds always bury themselves too hot or want to take a bath. But that’s not always the case. Sometimes the bird actually might be injured or hurt. In that case, you need to take it to the vet immediately.  But if it’s not injured and is burrowing, don’t take it out; it’s probably just taking a bath or cooling off.
