Honeybees are small flying insects whose life span varies between 170 to 180 days. Honeybees usually live in groups and the life span of their queen is more than 2 years. The queen exhibits leadership and she takes care of all the eggs. Honeybees are said to be one of the few species that never sleeps or eats. They work day in and out. They have 2 eyes, 4 legs, and 6 legs. The number of bees inside the hive is lakhs. Bees do not have teeth, instead of teeth they have a tube used to suck nectar. Every beehive has almost four thousand bees. All of them are divided to do different tasks. Some bees go out to bring honey, they are called drone bees, some take bees to take care of the eggs that the queen lays. There is only one queen in a hive. Bees are infamous for eating honey from honeycombs. The big family of bees is called a colony. They also do a different bee dance when they inform other bees of food. Beekeepers are also called Honey farmers. They rear the bees for the production of honey. Bees are small but very important for our ecosystem therefore we must control our activities to save bees. Once a bee has stung you the sting will be stuck there and the bee will die from blood loss. Bees are non-aggressive and they do not attack until a human or animal disturbs their hive. Many bees have no sting at all. A bee stinger is usually inside its abdomen. Other bees and wasps, which have stings that are not barbed, retain their stingers to sting again. When the honeybee finds a good source of food it informs the rest of the hive by a waddle dance. For nearby flowers, the bee does a simple circular dance. For flowers that are far away the dance is a figure-eight pattern. It gives the other bees a good idea of where to go for finding the nectar. The angle between the centerline of the figure-8 patterns and the top of the hive, which stands for the sun indicates the path of the flowers. Hence friends tell everyone bees are good and useful creatures.
