The ruins left of Ukraine

It all started on the 24th of February, 2022. One of the deadliest battles since World War 2 began was the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Both militaries clashed together killing thousands of soldiers. This is unlike anything I’ve talked about because this is something far more complicated, strategic, and deadly. However, military and humanitarian aid are being sent to Ukraine by NATO and non-NATO countries. Not many countries have noticed the large pain being wildlife in Russia and Ukraine. The problems are severe in both nations and are only getting worse as this war escalates.

In Ukraine, as I tell you this, hundreds of abandoned pets and pets that couldn’t be rescued are being killed mercilessly on the battlefields. The war is only going on in the east at the moment and the number of wildlife casualties is already in the thousands. Imagine how many animals will die once the battlefield is bigger. And those thousands are just pets. There are many more but this time wild animals. Ukraine’s wild animals and ecosystems are dying. Hundreds of bears, fish, rabbits, leopards, etc. are dying. Some species might even become extinct. Not many casualties have been reported but I’m 100% sure that the damage to Ukraine’s forests is just too bad for the number of casualties reported.

If we don’t act now, we’d risk losing hundreds if not thousands of ecosystems and species. But it’s not just the animals. This war is speeding up rapid Climate Change as well. The amount of co2 in the atmosphere at the start of the war was pretty big. And now loads of military aid is being sent to Ukraine, more advanced weapons that are taking up more fossil fuels to run, and the bombs, the bullets, they also contribute to this. This war is going to speed up Climate Change like crazy.

Now, this is all very depressing and frustrating but there is something we can do about it. If you’re a vet or an animal rescuer you can fly to Ukraine and treat animals there. You’d also have help since people have already started doing it. And security is very high, Ukraine soldiers will make sure you’re safe at all times when you go out for a rescue, so don’t worry about security. Or if you’re the CEO of an animal rescue organization, you can move your business to Ukraine and save animals there. You would also have support from both other foreign and Ukrainian animal rescues. And about the Climate Change part, the best thing we can do is, well planting trees, Yeah, I know it’s not going to make much of a difference but hey you gotta work with what you got. Also, even if you’re not an animal rescue organization you can fund animal rescues in Ukraine and pay their employees and put money into the animal rescue company itself.

That’s all we can do at the moment; we just have to do more of this stuff and we can hope for the best. The rest is in the hands of the Russians and the Ukrainians. I hope they make the choice that will save animal lives and ecosystems.
